STS9 @ First Avenue

Santa Cruz, CA based electronica band STS9 graced the Minneapolis area with their presence this past week. Making an appearance at First Avenue, they kicked off a hot night of electronica in the Twin Cities.  To begin the festivities newcomers Big Gigantic played a set of their Jazz influenced electronic hip-hop to a crowd that loves the fusion of horns with spacey psychedelic music.  After that STS9 followed things up by starting their set with “Arigato” as well as “Blu Mood” and their newest single off recent album Ad Explorata called “Atlas”

Pretty Lights – Passing By Behind Your Eyesl

What a day in the Jamtronica/Electronic scene!  New music from STS9 and a whole new album from Pretty Lights!  “Passing By Behind Your Eyes” was just released this morning and has been overloading the Pretty Lights website all day! I was finally able to download a copy and I must say that it is a quality record that will certainly be played for a while to come!  Coming up in the last few years making music in the Denver Area, Pretty Lights creates a new genre that I can only describe as Electro/Hip-Hop/Crunk.  However you want to describe the music is your choice, but a lot of different types of people will be able to appreciate these tracks as they have well-placed samples from artists such as The Notorious BIG, Pink Floyd, Diana Ross, some sort of jazz, Eminem, and what I think could be Dido.

Believe me, the shit pounds. Go see him at the Varsity Theatre in Minneapolis on October 21!

You can download a 192 kbps version of “Passing By Behind Your Eyes” Here.  A 320 kbps version is offered in the ITunes music store for $9.99.

New STS9 single “Atlas” off new album “Ad Explorata”

Wow!  What a hell of a day for the electronic realm!  STS9 releases the first single off their new album “Ad Explorata” and Pretty Lights releases his first new album in a while!

STS9 has played a bunch of shows this summer and has basically been a staple at every hot festival that has gone on.  Having thrown it down at Wakarusa, Rothbury, Camp Bisco, and every other show that meant something this summer fans of the band certainly have come to expect a high level of sound quality and musical excitement.  “Atlas” delivers more of the new, fresh STS9 that has been created over the last year. Though the song has been performed many times live already, the studio version provides a new take on the song that followers will enjoy.

Pretty Lights – Sunday School

Set to be released in early October, Pretty Lights’ new album should be pretty great if it’s anything like the bangin’ preview track he just released off it.  Most fans of Derek Vincent Smith will notice that “Sunday School” has been a staple in the live arsenal.  Now that it’s going to be on an official album the general population will now be able to hear it blast throughout the community.
